Alisa Beary -1 crdt classwork.doc Here's everything I've done to get the one credit.

I have been working on my Viterbo project (1 credit) and here is what I have completed so far:

1.  Twitter.com: I have created my twitter page and am still learning how to manuver around this site.  I started following Angela Maiers and have found many wonderful links that I continue to visit for information.  I am currently working on my Teacher Librarian Masters from UNI, so I have been busy with these projects.  Once this settles down, I plan on visiting these links from Angela a little more indepthly.  I have also posted on my twitter account two Animoto videos that I created.  See below.

2.  Animoto.com: I subscribed to this website and created two 30 second videos.  These are free of charge.  The longer videos require you to purchase credits.  I found that the 30 second video is very tricky and will require students to be very selective with their pictures and text that they want to include in their video.  My first video, The Plant Life Cycle, is a video I would use as a model for my 3rd graders in our Plant Unit in science.  Downloading clip art pictures took quite a bit of time until I realized that I needed to look for pdf. pictures and not just any clip art.  Anyway, I have learned through my mistakes and the process got a lot easier.  Something I will keep in mind when using this with my students.  I wasn't sure how to add this video as a link on here, so I have added it to my twitter page.  My user name is cfoell0115.

My second video didn't take quite as long as the first.  This video, True Love, is one I created to share my engagement photos with my close friends and family.  Adding these photos were easy since they were already pdf. and in a folder on my computer!  I also searched online for "our song", The Luckiest, and edited it to fit the 30 second video.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find it as a MP3, so my fiance found his CD with the song on it and we ripped it frm the CD onto my computer in MP3 format.  From there I edited it to fit the video.  For my students, I would just have them choose from the songs provided by Animoto.  This will eliminate the chance of any inappropriate songs or illegal downloads.  This video can also be viewed on my twitter page.

3.  I have been following "The 2 Sisters" and their Daily Five for literacy.  I have read their book and have visited their site frequently for reading activity ideas.

4.  I am currently working on publishing a book on lulu.  I am hoping that this book will be completed before the end of the month.  If so, I will post my link so you can view it!

Thanks!  Carrie Diehl

From Kim Kerian

I have been working many hours on my Viterbo project (2 credits) and know I will continue to always build my PLN and explore.

1.  I joined Twitter at http://twitter.com/kkerianteacher  and spend many hours daily checking my twitter network, sharing resources, and RTing many great ideas shared by others.  I have been looking for ideas and activities to utilize "smartboards" as well as iTouch usage in the classroom and have received many super ideas. as well as many other resources/ideas.   Along with that, I have joined http://twitter4teachers.com to build my PLN.

2.  I have also joined the "Mosaic of Thought" email site and love all the valuable information for teaching and education

3.  I have become a member of "Classroom 2.0" under http://www.classroom20.com/profile/KimKerian and joined three discussion groups.  Through one of these groups, I have found a teacher in a different state who my students will be blogging back and forth with her students about books we are reading.  Very excited!

4.  I have joined "voicethread" as well as "dimdim" to utilize these resources this coming year in my classroom. I  have had great conversation about utilizing "dimdim" through my new PLN friends so I am anxious to try it out.

5.  I have started my blog page, which is very boring at the time, at http://3bblognews.edublogs.org/  .   Once school gets going, I will jazz it up.   I have included a tab at this site about myself as well as started making the "important dates" tab.  I will be linking this to my school webpage that I had already made (and needs tweeking) as a resource.  I will be utilizing this blog a lot by posting daily news and activities throughout the school year starting to replace the paper newsletter that gets sent home weekly.  I am not sure I like "edublog" as much as "blogger" to set up a blog.  "Blogger" is much easier to do in my mind.  I might switch over to set up my school blog page to "Blogger" before the year starts.  We'll see.   I have also created a personal blog page Ithrough blogger" to share information and photos with extended family across the US.  I have received wonderful comments from family and love to post "things" weekly!  (If you want that address, I can send it.  Just let me know)  I have changed my school blog page that I will be using to http://3bblognews.blogspot.com/.  Check it out even though it is in beginning stages.  I have posted my badge for Classroom 2.0 as well as "my twitter" connections.  I find that blogger/blogspot is more "user friendly" than edublog so I will be utilizing this site as my teacher blogspot to post daily updates, photos etc.  Just FYI even though I know projects were due last week.  I just wanted to make that change noticed.

6.  My students will also be blogging daily about activities in the classroom.  I plan to set up a "bloggers cafe" in my classroom for students to blog about their reading as well as their writing.  There will also be a "blogger" weekly job for a student to make a posting at the end of every day for parents.   I am currently looking either to utilize "21classrooms" as the blogging resource or part of "word press".  Still exploring the benefits of both and will decide whic to use before school starts.  Suggestions?

7.  I have created an account at Flickr.  Haven't figured out how to upload pictures into a slideshow on my blog page yet.  Worked on it for hours trying to figure it out, still no success.  Returned to "Picasa" and uploaded them into a slide show (family blog page) with ease.  Can't figure out why it won't work on Flickr but I was very frustrated and not as pleased as using "Picasa".

8.   Last but not least, I have read Habitudes by Angela and will be utilizing many ideas and activities within my classroom from the reading and key ideas of that book.

Thanks!  I am also open to ideas and suggestions!  Kim Kerian

I have been working on my Viterbo project (1 credit)

1. I have created a Blog.  The title of my blog is Reading Teacher Central.  The URL address is:  http://rdgteacher.blogspot.com

2. This Blog thing is all new to me.  I searched google for a free site.  The one I decided on was Blogspot.

3.  It was pretty easy to set up.  Easier than I thought it would be.  The only thing I haven't figured out was if there is a way to have my picture on the site.  Do I want that?????

4.  I have many ideas on how to use this during the year.  One idea is to share ideas with other reading teachers.  I would love hear activities and books they are using with their children.  I have taught for 23 years.  I think I also have experience I could share with others.   Another thought is to post what I am doing in my classes with the parents.

5.  I would love feedback and ideas from others that use Blogs in their classrooms.

Renee LaFleur and Carey Buchanan West Des Moines Schools

I have been working on my Viterbo project ( 2 credits)

1. I have signed up for a twitter account and have added my name to the spreadsheet.

2. I have taken my vacaction pictures and turned them into a book on LuLu. If you would like to view the book, here is the web address. http://www.lulu.com/content/lulustudio-photo-book/my-photobook/7401320.

3. I have created a wiki at pbworks.com. I currently have my back to school letter on the wiki. As soon as the parent email addresses are listed in our JMC attendance program. I will send out an email inviting all my classroom parents to view the wiki. This way they can leave me question that they have before and throught the school year. I will also be updating my wiki with the weekly spelling list and my star student of the week. Kristin Curtis and I have been researching Flip Video cameras to use in our classroom. If I am able to get one, I will use it to video my star student of the week reading a story and place it on the wiki. Website address http://tammycashman.pbworks.com.

4. I have joined classroom 2.0. I am not sure that I like this site. I wanted to try and use both of the sites to see which site I liked the best. I need a site which is very user friendly. Website address www.classroom20.com/profile/TamaraCashman.

5. A fellow first grade teacher and I are also creating a First Grade website for our school. I will add the address when the project is finished.

6. Last year, I video taped my students doing puppet shows. We started with a reader's theater and then made puppets, and finished by giving the class a puppet show which I video taped. I then sent the tape home with a different student every night. I am hoping that this year I can use a flip video or podcast to put the puppet shows on the internet for all of the parents to view and comment on.

I am open to anyl and all suggestions.

Jessica Hilgendorf and Nancy Stuedemann have been working on three different websites for pull out gifted students to explore in the fall. The first website we experimented with was Animoto. On this website we created several different videos. Our children used photos of family and friends to create these special videos. We plan on having our classroom students create videos of their own. One example may be to find photos that represent each habitude.

The second website we explored was Voice Thread. We had our children at home use vacation photos and created a video with their own voice narrating it. We plan on having gifted students also create voice thread videos to share research projects, retell literature and teach mini lessons.

The last website we explored was Lulu. Of the three websites we experimented with this one was the most disappointing. We had one of our children create a book using the aspiring authors link. After the creation was done, we found it difficult to navigate through Lulu and could never figure out how students receive a copy of the book for free. We could also never set our own price for the book. If anyone has any suggestions on this website, please let us know.

We plan on posting some projects on our already established district gifted website on the teacher resources page.

Laurie, it really depends on how you want to interact with the site. Blogs are for online journaling. You can customize the blog by embedding various other Web 2.0 projects within the blog. The wiki lends to more of a collaborative setting, easily changing content and adding content by others such as student projects. A great way to go, if you want the students to have their own blogs would be Class Blogmeister. If you want to have students comment easily to your blog, I would recommend AfterClass. I hope this helps. Toy

Alicia, Thanks for the website @www.thebestblogontheblock.com I did start my blog earlier today, but will see what I can do to improve mine. I have already started over a couple of times. What's one more time?? ;)

Toy, Thanks for the tip about AfterClass. I wished I had checked your feedback earlier today. I did start a blog on Edublog, but AfterClass looks good too. I will explore tomorrow and see if it would be worth my time to switch over the work I have done so far. I am still contemplating using a wiki for some collaboration, but wondering if maybe I should just make sure I have a good blog for now, and work on a wiki later. Thanks for your help.

I am also excited about using one of the multimedia sources for turning slides into presentations by using animoto, photopeach, slide.com, or bubbleshare. What do you like best ? Laurie

I have been working on the AfterClass site to start a blog there. So...now I have 2 blogs started. Ahh!! I am wondering if I can use outside sources to embed slide shows in with music from other sources such as animoto, slide.com, etc. Do you know if this is possible? I like that AfterClass has lots of security features, but maybe too much??? It won't allow outside viewers (only teachers, students, and parents) to view them. Thoughts???

Hello! This is my first post! I got started right away on the 22nd with my projects, but wasn't sure if you wanted to hear about "works in progress" or not...based on the great information I'm seeing posted, any and all items are of value, huh? :-)
I've put in about 4-5 hours so far, searching various wiki, blog, and web page options. I've also been twittering! I've set up the foundation for a wiki space at wikispaces.com, and am looking into blog spots as well. I'm thinking about classpress.com, because it seems to be extremely secure and students have the ability to respond to tests, assignments, and downloaded info. I'm not sure what safety/security at the middle school where I'll be working is as of yet, or if I'll be able to make decisions like these on my own. (I've taught third grade up to this point.)
I'm currently working on my Master's thesis, and in my research have come across web pen pals information. I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with this. My greatest mission for this school year (being a Language Arts teacher) is to generate as many reading-writing-social activities into class activities as possible. I welcome any feedback or suggestions! My thesis is based on Book Clubs...I'd love to find a way for kids to blog with me, each other, other Language Arts sections, and kids across the country about similar texts. Again, feedback welcome!
Thanks!!

This is my first post about various "works in progress" for Viterbo credit. I am jumping in (as was suggested by friend on twitter) and thought I should probably post something before I forget everything I am working on. I have put in beyond 20 hours so far exploring, joining and developing many learning networks as I started immediately. I have been twittering! My husband has began to ask the daily question of "What did you discover on twitter today?" :) I have joined "twitter4teachers.com" to find more educators to follow and collaborate with as well. I have also joined classroom 2.0 and have joined three discussion groups already, sharing ideas and learning myself. Mrs. T.G suggested we start with something personal to guide ourselves through before we jump right into blogging etc., so I made a blog page for my family on "blogspot" and my extended family, across the country, love it!! That was a great way to start with blogging. So, I was thinking I would use the blog that you set up with your classroom 2.0 account as my communcation blog as a 3rd teacher for parents etc., but then I received other blog ideas from colleagues on twitter. So I tried a blog page through "Edublogs" and have been messing with that for the last 2 hours. I plan to set up a blog page from myself, the teacher, as well as one for my students to blog on. I plan to use "21classrooms" for their blogs or maybe "edublogger". Haven't decided yet. Still exploring. I have also joined the "Mosaic of Thought" email group, as recommended by Mrs. TG, and found fabulous information/discussion. I have joined "voicethread.com" and am planning on using it with my 3rd graders this coming year, as well as "dimdim". Still discovering the full potential of each of those- has anyone used them before?

I am creating a Graphics Web 2.0 Wiki.(Not quite ready to publish and share yet). I am teaching a graphics course, just finished teaching it today, as a matter of fact. I have created some graphic samples, and also I asked my students to explore WEb 2.0 graphics tools as well. I will post my completed Wiki, with some ideas in this area, including what my students learned through their work. I am registered for one hour credit. I sure appreciate the opportunity to work on meaningful projects while at the same time learning so much!

This project has taken much more time than I thought it would!! Much of my time was spent learning what wikis, blogs, PLNs, twittering, widgets, etc. even were. I am now twittering and blogging with others. I set up a Google Reader account and I am just amazed by all of the information out there! I am ready to submit my project which I have definitely surpassed the required hours. I initially started a wiki and a blog (actually 2 blogs), but I decided it would be smarter to focus on one blog and try to get familiar with it and fully utilize it with my fourth graders. Here's the blog site: http://lauriemasters04.edublogs.org/ . I have several posts in the works as soon as school starts. I am looking forward to getting started with my students, and my technology supervisor better look out because there are lots of things I want to incorporate. I am anxious to try out Voice Thread and would love to incorporate more widgets if we can okay the funds. I have enjoyed making some practice slide shows that incorporate music. I think my students are going to love it. Please let me know if there is anything more that I need to do for my project. I have kept a written log of my work as well. Thanks so much for peaking my interest in the new technology!

On top of the many hours we have worked individually, Kim, Shirley and I met last week for a half day to discuss ways we could effectively use Web 2.0 tools with staff in our school. We are in the process of initiating the structure of The Daily Five into our literacy block. I am putting together a website for the staff with links to blogs and wikis that already exist, as well as a local staff blog and wiki for our teachers to share and collaborate as they begin to use The Daily Five structure. I will post a link to the site in the near future. There is just SOOOO much out there that it can almost become overwhelming. I am finding that it is wise to limit the number of RSS feeds. I just do not have the time to read them all. I will be teaching a technology integration class the first week of August, and am anxious to share some of the great web tools available for FREE!

I am SO excited to have new colleagues within my PLN! Several of the participants from Angela's Des Moines Literacy Institute have signed up for Twitter. I am going to add a page to this wiki where we can have just a long list of everyone's twitter account names so we can make sure to follow each other.

Also, I am so very excited about the free blog/photo sharing site offered through Shutterfly.com. VERY easy and well designed. I created a site for a course I'm teaching later this month: http://mrstgcourse.shutterfly.com. I highly recommend it if you are still looking for an easy way to create a blog or class website--especially with the ease of sharing photos!

Keep "collaboriting" and building those PLNs!

Here is my project for Viterbo:1 credit. After researching some ideas for my project I decided on two different ones. I joined Twitter and began following some people. You can follow me at MrsSaw. Also, I created a classroom website. The link is www.mrsrueber.webs.com I still need to upload some pictures once I get my classroom in order and I will add more information when the school year begins. Doing this project was way out of my comfort zone, but it ended up being very good for my growth in technology. I enjoyed making the classroom website and can't wait to use it this school year!

I am also getting more comfortable with all this technology, after I finally figured out how to submit info for Viterbo: 2 credits.

1)I have joined twitter at kristinscurtis.
2) I have started putting together a book using Lulu.com that I learned about from Toy's mini workshop. I am putting together all the digital pictures I kept throughout the year of my students doing the Daily 5, math games, indoor recess stuff, music class, school concert, holiday parties, etc. listing the kids' names and the activity. I think of it as a classroom yearbook. I have 2-3 more pages to complete then I will post that site.
3) I am half way through the "Classroom Habitudes" book
4)Am researching wiki and wanting to add a link to my current classroom website
5)I did some research with a co-worker on the Flip Videos Toy introduced us to and plan to ask our parent group to purchase 2-3 for our school!!

I am taking 3 Viterbo credits. The main focus of my time has been collaborating with my kindergarten team on a book study using Classroom Habitudes. We decided to have our discussion using Classroom 2.0 (http://www.classroom20.com/group/habitudes). We first got together one afternoon to get our ducks in a row! We set up our accounts and decided on a weekly discussion plan. We are nearing the end of our online discussion and are meeting in person again to wrap it all up.
We will use that afternoon to:
*continue our online discussion; talk about our Classroom 2.0 experience
*develop a plan for teaching the habitudes for this coming school year
*make detailed lesson plans for the first two habitudes for implementation
*figure out how to post our work on this workspace the right way!?

Other things I have done or am working on for the project and my PLN:
*Created a website for parents/teachers. This has been a work in progress for awhile and have had some hiccups with my district allowing me to link it. Hopefully their will be more progress this year! http://web.mac.com/amanning72/iWeb/Site/Home.html
*Joined Twitter: http://twitter.com/amyjomanning
*searching the web for blog ideas
*joined a listserv for Daily 5
*I send home monthly Kodak Galleries to my parents to show them pictures of the kids and what we are learning all month. This gives them oodles of pictures of their kids to print off from their kindergarten year. It also gives families a way to share with extended family members and also the kids can explain who their friends are and what they are learning in the picture. I am researching new or better sites to be able to share those out. Shutterfly, Flickr, etc.
*I used the Flip video a lot last year and am brainstorming ways to use it more this coming year. Great little toy!
*Searching for good websites for kids so my students can utilize the web next year. BookFlix, Starfall, Everyday Math, PBS kids, etc.

For my credits I have been spending hours exploring the sites Toy suggested. I have set up a blog (which is way out of my comfort zone!) It's not really for educational purposes yet, just getting my feet wet. I have also been on Twitter, another scary step. As I look through the other sites I definitely plan on using lulu and flickr this school year. I am excited to get back to school where 'I can have the support of fellow teachers. I am much more brave with someone standing over my shoulder. I have also been studying podcasting through the various "how to podcast" sites. I see a purpose for class podcasts but because I'm so unsure of myself, I am hoping to do some collaboration with this. I am so glad several teachers in our building took this class together. The idea of collaborating on projects is very exciting to me!

Below you will find the collaborative work we have each contributed as we worked towards a web page on Japan.

1. Twitter.com, we have all created a Twitter page. We have briefly explored twitter and continue to look for educational resources to follow.

2. Created a wiki page-Joni and Tammi created one through pbworks.com and Beth's is through wikispaces.com

3. Explored several resources such as: flickr.com, amazon.com, teachertube.com, unitedstreaming.org

4. Classroom 2.0 is our main comprehensive site for our collaboration. We have spent many, many hours finding resources to enhance our study of Japan. We have all enjoyed being able to submit ideas, resources, and comments. This site is very user friendly and was easy for us to create!!!

5. We are all in the process of creating a webpage that will be available for students and parents.

6. We have joined the following groups on classroom 2.0: Elementary School 2.0 and Elementary Reading Teachers

I have been mapping my curriculum and lining it up with the Core Curriculum. It will be an ongoing project throughout the year as I add and change what I am doing. Kelly's Kindergarten is full of ideas and has been a big help.

I am most excited about my classroom website. I think it will be a great resource for my families. mrs.sandersonskindergarten@sfly.com.

I too bought a mac this summer. It is full of challenges. One of the aspects that I was most excited about was that I can hook it up to my tv in my room and I can use it to show things quickly from the internet. We only have a few Elmos in our building and they have to be checked out. I wanted something that could be spontaneous and this is a great answer for me.

I joined Classroom 2.0. I found there is a Kindergarten 2.0. I joined a group of Kindergarten teachers that are reading Classroom Habitudes. I am working on incorporating the Habitudes in with my 6 Traits. Last year I experimented with this and this year I have added in to my curriculm map.
I also found sites that will help me in many different areas. I liked www.gaillovely.com.

For my 2 hours of credit I have joined Twitter and am gradually adding more people to follow. I have put up a website for our teachers who will be implementing the Daily 5 and Daily CAFE this fall, and have included a couple of links to follow discussions (http://www.howard-winn.k12.ia.us/westcott/daily5/Building_Independent_Readers.html). I have also created a Daily 5 blog for our teachers and will be adding a Wiki for collaboration and sharing of ideas (http://howwinndaily5.blogspot.com/). I have also created a district technology blog that currently lists some of my favorite Web 2.0 tools (http://how-winntech.blogspot.com/). I will continue to update this throughout the school year with technology news of note, as well as a place to help teachers find resources and create their own personal learning network.

I have a Google Reader set up to follow school technology news, the Daily 5 and SmartBoard postings. I am especially enjoying comments posted by Scott McCloud. He is a great resource and support for technology leadership in our schools. Through the Google Reader posts I have found two great creativity sites for teachers to use in their classrooms, ClassTools and ToonDo.

I have also set up accounts and have been experimenting with SlideShare, Voice Thread and Classroom 2.0. I will be teaching a technology integration class next week and am excited to share what I have learned.

My next step is to read Classroom Habitudes and experiment with Moodle.

For my 1 credit from Viterbo I have created a website for my classroom on Shutterfly.com. The address is http://mrsjansensprekclassroom.shutterfly.com

I have completed as much of it as I can without the new school year being started. I am going to update my site twice a week once on Monday and once on Friday. Monday I will post what we are going to learn this week and on Friday I will update what we actually accomplished that week. I will also be posting activites to do at home with parents and things to practice. I think this will be an easy website for many of my parents to get around on.
I have also posted pictures from this past year and I will try and upload picutures on Mon, Wed, and Fri to let parents see what their child is doing while they are at work. I am very excited about this site and I can't wait to hear feed back from parents as to what else they would like to see on here.

I have also attemped Twitter but I am still trying to figure that out. It may take some time and those of us with a 2 yr old know that there is not much down time to be on the computer.

For my 3 credits for Viterbo I started with a gmail account. Through google's account I was easily able to set up my RSS feed on my google reader.

I set up my Twitter account: ShannonMJones. I love to observe and follow the links to several amazing educators. I need to participate more--the whole idea is getting less scary.

I signed up for Classroom 2.0: ShannonMJones

I am reading and highlighting the core curriculum I am looking at what we do, what I am currently teaching-what can be added to that and how it's assessed. I am also reading the CAFE book and am trying to set up my classroom accordingly.

I set up a classroom website--my favorite project! http://mrsjones1stgrade.shutterfly.com I looked at Beth Newingham's website and my favorite-- www.welcometothepond.com. By looking at what I liked about those and my expectations as a parent, this was sure fun. I am very excited to have this up at Open House and have it replace newsletters next year!

I also set up a wiki for our school: delaware.pbworks.com Here I have started with our classroom websites and helpful websites.

As an elementary principal, for my 1 credit I did a search on the "Change Agents" link for school administrators. I explored all the topics on Scott McLeod's SAI Training Boot Camp and found them extremely useful. The Common Craft's video series was helpful. I watched several TED Talks. I will be attending McLeod's conference "Teaming Up for 21st Century" at SAI in 2 weeks. Other activities included a blog for Crestwood Elementary. This will be used just with teachers but future plans will be a blog for parents. The address is http://ssovereignprincipal.blogspot.com/ I signed up for Classroom 2.0. I enjoy the research and sharing and plan to spend more time on that. I joined Twitter and am following Angela Maiers and visiting many links. I am collaborating with colleagues, Helen and Kim, on how to share our PLN and new technology tools with staff.

I read "Classroom Habitudes", "The Daily 5" and "The Cafe Book". I plan to work with teachers to implement these learnings in our literacy program. My next steps are to add to my Crestwood Elementary blog and to expand my PLN with other principals.

I have also signed up for Skype since I now have a laptop with a webcam. I plan to use this for videoconferencing with other administrators and AEA consultants next year to save time spent on the road. It will also be used to keep in touch with grandchildren who live far away!

I have finished reading Angela's Classroom Habitudes. I was excited to see that many of the books that I am already using are listed. I am brainstorming how to simplify the lessons for Kindergarten. I have really hit the imagination habitude because 5 and 6 year olds are already good at this. I can't wait to ask them what they are thinking about a book instead of what the book is about. I'm excited to try each habitude. My reading next week is The Cafe Book.

I already submitted my comment and information for my 1 viterbo credit but I wanted to add this on the page.... I just finished reading the Habitudes book and loved it!!! It was inspiring and I can't wait to use it with my 2nd graders at the beginning of this next school year. I hope it will really set the tone for the type of class and learners I want to have. To get organized I have made my lesson plans, a schedule for the lessons and a journal for students to collect their responses in. Thanks Anglea for being so innovative and future foward with your thinking. :-)
